How accurate does my policy need to be?

Hey guys,

I was wondering how accurate my policy needs to be in the simulation at my conference?
Would the chairs like it if I was slightly off policy?
Do they check this stuff?

generally if you research your policy for about 15-20 minutes from credible sources (like the UN websites, NGO websites, encyclopedias, etc.) you should be fine

Whether they check your information to be right or wrong or not depends from conference to conference. Sometimes people can just BS their way through a conference, not knowing anything and pull off an award. I've seen it happen, but its rare.

it always depends on the conference. generally, your policy just needs to be somewhat accurate. some conference are really uptight though. thats just how they are.

yea, it's always better to be on policy than off. if someone calls you out on your country's policy it's hard to regain credibility and other delegates are less likely to follow you. but if you're a smaller country or it's somethng people aren't likely to know, make stuff up all you want!

it's much more important to know how your country thinks instead of just memorizing policy. there will inevitably come a point, especially in a crisis committee, where something comes up that you just don't know. in cases like that, don't be afraid to extrapolate and make something up on the spot. as long as it is within the norm of how your country usually acts, you should be fine.
